Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) helps with being socially accountable. Not only to ourselves, but also to our stakeholders and the public. Royal Van Eerd has been actively operating under the slogan ‘We all Care’ for years now. We take our responsibility in society and are conscious of the impact we are having on all aspects of the environment and society. We believe we can actively improve our footprint. Although we have been actively working on CSR topics for years, in 2019 we decided to document our CSR efforts in a more formal way, through a CSR policy and a yearly published CSR report. Our yearly CSR report is available for our partners upon request.

We base our CSR policy on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, out of which we selected the following four goals as cornerstones of our policy.

- Decent work and economic growth
- Climate action
- Responsible consumption and production
- Partnerships for the goals

100% FSC® Certified board

We are committed to produce cartons in the most sustainable way. As a converter of board materials into cartons for the pharmaceutical industry, we have a 100% focus on mono-material products that are fully recyclable and renewable. For many years, we have been purchasing base materials that are sourced from forests that are managed in a sustainable way. In recent years we have received requests to provide our cartons occasionally on FSC certified board, which has led to our decision to become FSC certified. In 2020 we received this certification, which enabled us to not only produce cartons on sustainable board material, but also produce FSC certified orders. When we noticed an increased market demand for certified sustainable material (and we expect this trend to continue), we decided to move our entire board material to FSC certified materials as of Q1, 2022. In this way we further support the FSC initiative and the CSR objectives from our customers and moreover ourselves. FSC certified board material has 100% identical specifications compared to the current ‘conventional’ board we are using to produce cartons. While FSC is only an administrative certification and has no impact on product quality or specifications, we guarantee that there is no impact on run ability on packaging lines.

EcoVadis medal

With a score of 63 points, Royal Van Eerd belongs to the top 12% of all companies assessed by EcoVadis. And we are very proud of that! EcoVadis provides sustainability ratings worldwide. Van Eerd has been assessed on environmental, social, ethical and sustainable procurement performance. At Van Eerd, sustainability and continuous improvement are important topics. This assessment helps to make our business processes even more sustainable. EcoVadis is an organization that has developed its own platform to assess companies on all sustainability aspects within an organization. Based on this assessment, the company's performance and points for improvement are clear. In total, they have assessed 75,000 companies and are used by many parties to issue a sustainability rating. In 2022 Royal Van Eerd became a Sedex member. As a member we are committed to being a responsible business, sourcing responsibly, and improving ethical standards and working conditions within the supply chain.
